[:en]Baptism is the first Sacrament of the Catholic Church. People are inserted in christian life through their baptism once it is the manifestation of the desire to achieve salvation. Through it people are freed from sin and delivered to the fatherhood of God. “In the Sacrament of baptism, we become members of the heaven, worthy of paradise through this amazing grace that gives the Eternal Father’s power to our soul,” explained the Redemptorist Missionary, Fr. Bráulio Maria Pereira.

Many couples take a Baptismal preparation course before submitting their child to the Sacrament of Baptism. According to Alice Bernardes Ferreira, coordinator of a Baptismal preparation course, the exchange of experiences and learning the theory over classes are fundamental to a life guided by wisdom and faith in the Eternal Father. “This course educates parents about the importance of Baptism. It is a preparation that raises awareness on the education of their children in faith,” she said.

The catechist José de Araújo streesed the importance of the liturgical Baptism. “Despite the series of rites, signs and symbols, the liturgy of Baptism is enchanting, but the most important about this moment is the real presence of Jesus. Who baptizes is Jesus,” he said.

Children that will be baptized must have their parents and godparents duly instructed about the meaning of Baptism, the duties they have before God and the Church and how to educate the child according the christian way of life. “The godparents are those who continue the work of the parents. In case of parents  absence, they are responsible for the religious education and even the maintenance of the child in this world. The godparents should be people chosen as people of faith. This should be the main reason why parents must deliver their child to a particular couple,” said Fr. Bráulio.

The trader Jansen Pessoa believes that it is through Baptism that the child starts his participation in the Church. “The important thing is to teach the path of good, of the Church, Jesus, and always advise the couple. Godparents have a great responsibility,” he said.

The couple of engineers, Ludmila Couto Tavares and Pedro Henrique Campos Tavares, took the preparation course before baptizing her daughter Isabel. “My whole family is catholic. It would not be different with my daughter, I want her to follow a theist religion, just as me and my husband and her grandparents,” said the mother.

Isabel’s father added: “It is certainly a very important moment for the life of a child. It is a moment that we are delivering the life of the child to God and, especially, thanking Him for having placed this child in our lives. So, from this moment on, the child begins to follow a Christian life”.

“While the priest pours water over the person, the priest says: ‘I baptize you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’. Thus, through Baptism, we have the grace of being incorporated into the mystical body of Christ, of which He is the head,” concluded Fr. Muchas parejas hacen el curso del Bautismo antes de entregar a los hijos al Sacramento. Según Alice Bernardes Ferreira, coordinadora del curso de Bautismo, el intercambio de experiencias y la teoría trasmitida son fundamentales para una vida guiada con sabiduría y fe en el Padre Eterno. “Este curso concientiza a los padres sobre la importancia del Bautismo. Es una preparación para que tengan conciencia en educar a sus hijos en la fe”, indicó.

Ya el catequista José de Araújo destacó la importancia de la liturgia del Bautismo. “A pesar de tener una serie de ritos, signos y símbolos, la liturgia del Bautismo es encantadora. Sin embargo, lo más importante es la presencia viva de Jesús en ese momento. Quien bautiza es Jesús”, dijo.

Los padres y padrinos de los niños que serán bautizados deben saber lo que significa el Bautismo, y también, sobre las obligaciones que asumen ante Dios y la Iglesia al conducir a los niños a la vida cristiana. “Los padrinos son aquellos que continúan la obra de los padres, y que en la falta de ellos, asumen toda la formación religiosa, incluso la manutención del niño en este mundo. Los padrinos deben ser escogidos como personas de fe. Este debe ser el gran motivo por el cual los padres deben entregar a su hijo para determinado pareja”, resaltó el padre Braulio.

El representante comercial Jansen Pessoa, cree que es por medio del Bautismo, que el niño inicia su participación en la Iglesia. “Lo importante es enseñar el camino del bien, de la Iglesia, de Jesús y aconsejar siempre a la pareja. El padrino es quien asume una responsabilidad mayor”, dijo.

La pareja de ingenieros Ludmila Couto Tavares y Pedro Enrique Campos Tavares hizo el curso de preparación antes de entregar a su hija, Isabel, para el Sacramento. “Toda mi familia es católica. No sería diferente con ella, quiero que siga su vida en la religión que cree en Dios, así como yo y mi marido y sus abuelos”, dijo la madre.

El padre agregó: “Es un momento muy importante para la vida del niño, con certeza. Es un momento que estamos entregando la vida del niño a Dios, y sobre todo, dando gracias por haber puesto a ese niño en nuestras vidas. Entonces, a partir de este momento, el niño seguirá una vida cristiana”.

“En el momento en que el sacerdote está derramando agua sobre la persona, el sacerdote dice: ‘Yo te bautizo en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo’. Es así que, por el Bautismo, tenemos la gracia de incorporarnos en el cuerpo místico de Cristo, del cual Él mismo es la cabeza”, concluyó el padre Braulio.[:]
