[:en]Promoted by the Congregation of the Holy Redeemer, the V Redemptorist Congress on Drug Prevention was held between the 14th and 16th of September at the auditorium, Dom José Rodrigues, in Trindade (GO) which had as theme “Family: Drug prevention, codependency, and treatment”. The discussions were based on the motto “Rise up and Walk”, pertaining to the biblical text (Ac 3:6), which refers to the healing of a lame beggar through his faith in Jesus Christ.

According to sister Silvonete Soares, Mental health and Psychosocial Care of Children and Adolescents expert, the conference was an enriching experience. “We had the opportunity to reflect and debate the essential involvement of the family in preventing drug abuse since, in Brazil, there are still taboos or even prejudice surrounding this theme. Many people still think that drug abuse is something common only in rough neighborhoods. In this edition, we seek to break this stigma and highlight how much the family participation is essential. Anyway, we had a comprehensive audience and we managed to promote a rich debate,” she pointed out.

To sister Silvonete Soares, the family environment is the most effective in preventing problems with drugs. “We know that the use of drugs is an answer that one gives to suffering and a painful reality. That is why dialogue within the family is always of paramount importance,” she said.

The Congress also dealt with public health and the most viable alternatives offered to drug users regarding the treatment in conjunction with the family. “We have to invest in prevention first. After that, we need to ensure addicts’ access to high-quality public services that consider their specific needs, without neglecting their families. Comorbidity, a mental disorder associated with the use of drugs, is common among users. A treatment that focuses only on the user in this context is not effective. The family also needs to understand the necessity of treatment maintenance for the user’s rehabilitation,” sister Silvonete said .

Regarding the role of the Church, the event addressed evangelization as an allied force for treatment. “We, believers, significantly contribute in this area, welcoming those who need help and promoting events, as the Congress, meetings, seminars, training courses and rehabilitation services. Anyway, our goal is always to show that, with faith, it is possible to overcome drug addiction,” she concluded.

 [:es]Con el tema “Familia: prevención al uso de drogas, codependencia y tratamiento”, la Congregación del Santísimo Redentor de Goiás promovió,  entre los días 14 y 16 de septiembre, el V Congreso Redentorista de Prevención a las Drogas, en el Auditorio Dom José Rodrigues, en Trindade (GO). En esta edición, las discusiones fueron guiadas por el lema “Levántate y anda”, referente al texto bíblico (At 3,6), reflejando la curación de un hombre cojo por la fe en Jesucristo.

Según la especialista en Salud Mental y Atención Psicosocial de Niños y Adolescentes, hermana Silvonete Soares, el congreso fue una experiencia enriquecedora. “Hemos tenido la oportunidad de reflexionar y debatir la importante participación de la familia en la prevención del uso indebido de drogas, considerando que en Brasil, todavía existen tabúes o incluso preconceptos sobre el tema. Muchas personas aún piensan que eso es algo de quien vive en los suburbios. En esta edición, buscamos romper ese paradigma y evidenciar cuanto la presencia de la familia es esencial en este contexto. Al final, tuvimos un público comprensivo y conseguimos promover un rico debate”, enfatizó.

Acerca del tema del congreso relacionado a la familia, la hermana Silvonete Soares indicó que el ambiente familiar es el más efectivo para prevenir y recuperar del problema con las drogas. “Sabemos que el uso de drogas es una respuesta que la persona da para una realidad de dolor y sufrimiento. Por lo que siempre es importante el diálogo dentro de la casa”, resaltó.

El congreso también trato sobre la salud pública y las alternativas más viables ofrecidas a los usuarios con respecto al tratamiento en conjunto con la familia. “Tenemos que invertir en la prevención primero. Después de eso, es necesario garantizar el acceso de los usuarios a servicios públicos de calidad, que consideren las necesidades específicas de cada uno, sin dejar de lado a la familia. Entre los usuarios, es común la comorbilidad, un trastorno mental asociado al uso de drogas. En esta realidad, no funciona un tratamiento que se centre sólo en el usuario, la familia también necesita comprender la necesidad de mantener el tratamiento para su rehabilitación”, dijo la hermana Silvonete.

En cuanto a la importancia de la iglesia, el evento abordó la evangelización como una fuerza aliada para el tratamiento. “Nosotros, los religiosos, contribuimos significativamente en esta área, acogiendo a aquellos que necesitan y promoviendo eventos, como lo fue el Congreso, encuentros, seminarios, cursos de capacitación y servicios de recuperación. Al final, nuestro objetivo es siempre demostrar que, con fe, es posible superar la adicción a las drogas”, concluyó la hermana.[:]
