[:en]In August, the church celebrates vocations. Each week, reflections and mass prayers are focused on God’s call. The intent is to pray for people who have chosen to follow: a religious life, priesthood, marriage or lay service in the community.

Whether lay or religious, Christians find in the Church the support to discern their vocation. Msgr. Daniel Lagni is an example of a person who accepted the call to a priestly life. “Since I was a child, I would say I wanted to be a priest and gradually matured. It is a process of discernment. It is not something that happens overnight and you are completely ready for it. It is a long journey during which we pray, study, listen and talk to God, receive spiritual guidance in order to see whether it is the right choice indeed,” said the priest.

At the age of 65, 36 years as a priest, Msgr. Lagni joyfully lives serving the Church. “I have always had a flame in my heart, a pastoral zeal, and want to serve God and brothers as best as possible. Of course, as age approaches limitations appear but I want to be always available. The higher the vocation or maturation, the better it is for one, to God, and to the community,” he added.

The teacher, Diogo Gonçalves de Resende is an example of a layman who received the call and serves at Church. For him, the vocation is a source of pride and retribution to the Eternal Father. He has been serving on the Pilgrimage as sacristan, assisting the priests on preparation of the liturgical objects used during the masses. He explained how it feels like to be a part of Church: “whatever the work at Church is, the Eternal Father is blessing because we are all His children. It is a symbol of unity, of the same faith. Since 2003, I have been in the rectory, collaborating with the whole celebration process. It is an honor to be here,” he said.

To the Fr. Natalino Martins, the reflection on vocations should lead Christians to act, so that everyone can experience their own call. “Every man and every woman who believes and wait on the Lord, make their own intimate experience with God. It is not an ordinary person who calls us. It is Christ. It is God’s desire. Not mine. Christ calls us to the priesthood, a consecrated religious life, to live life as a couple, in marriage, and he also calls those who want to live a lay life. Everything in life is a call from the Lord,” he affirmed.

According to the priest, it is during the month of August that people can find out and know how to awaken their vocations, in addition to direct their intentions to those who follow or wish to follow a religious life. “In particular, this month, sons and daughters of the Eternal Father may pray for each other, for the Church, their parishes, priest, bishops and for the youths that feel the desire to proclaim the Gospel, the redemption of Jesus Christ,” advised the Redemptorist Missionary.
