[:en]October is the month dedicated to missions. In early October, the Church celebrates the life of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, Patroness of the Missions; and at the end of this missionary month happens the World Missions Sunday. During this period, Catholics turn their eyes upon missionary work and pay tribute to those who dedicate themselves to evangelization.

According to the Redemptorist Missionary Fr. Herinque Strehl, October is the month of missions worldwide. “The missionary work has its roots in Jesus’ commandments. In the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 28, Jesus sends the apostles out with the mission of evangelizing and the Church acknowledges that evangelization is its duty. Pope Francis teaches, specially the brave and bold young people, to commit to mission since Jesus called the apostles, ” he said.

Patroness of the Missions

Still very young, at the age of 15, St. Thérèse joined the Carmel of Lisieux, in France, after being encouraged by her father and a direct authorization from the Pope. The nine years she lived in cloister had a profound impact in the Christian World with a striking image of an young nun that, even though relegated to Carmel, had lived totally dedicated to ecclesial life.

“There is no mission without the support from prayers and St. Therese did this: dedicated her entire life to pray for other people. In 1927, two years after being canonized, she was proclaimed Patroness of the Missions. Her heart was a large fountain, a flame, a zeal. Her prayers and small sacrifices were for the good of the Church and to evangelize,” claimed Sister Teresa Margarida do Coração de Jesus.[:es]Octubre es el mes dedicado a las misiones. En el comienzo del mes, la Iglesia celebra la Fiesta de Santa Teresita del Niño Jesús, Patrona de las Misiones; y al final del mes, se celebra el Domingo de las Misiones.  En este mes, los católicos acuden al servicio misionero y homenajean a los que se dedican a la evangelización.

Según el Misionero Redentorista, padre Henrique Strehl, en casi todos los países del mundo este mes está dedicado a las misiones. “La misión tiene su origen en las Palabras de Jesús. El capítulo 28 de San Mateo, dice que Jesús envía a los Apóstoles para la misión de la evangelización, y la Iglesia reconoce que se hace para la misión, para evangelizar. El Papa Francisco nos enseña especialmente a los jóvenes valientes, a asumir también la misión, pues, Jesús llamó a sus discípulos”, explicó.

Patrona de las Misiones

A los 15 años, siendo aún muy joven, Santa Teresita ingresó al Carmelo de Lisieux, en Francia, tras el apoyo de su padre y una autorización directa del Papa. Los nueve años de vida en clausura, dejaron una marca profunda, ofreciendo al mundo cristiano la sorprendente imagen de una joven monja que, aunque relegada al Carmelo, vivió inmersa en la vida eclesial.

“No hay misión sin el amparo de la oración, y Santa Teresita hizo eso, dedicó toda la vida a orar por las personas. En 1927, dos años después de ser canonizada, fue proclamada Patrona de las Misiones. Ella traía en su corazón una fe muy grande, un ardor, un celo, que ella también aprendió. Sus oraciones y sus pequeños sacrificios eran dirigidos por el bien de la Iglesia, para evangelizar”, afirmó la hermana Teresa Margarita del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús.[:]
