[:en]In this Christmas time it is common for people to set nativity scenes at home and churches. Built in various sizes, they represent the birth scene of Jesus Christ and are recognized as a Catholic tradition to celebrate one of the most important dates of the religious calendar, 25th December.

The Nativity scene is one of the symbols that depict the renewal of faith in Christmas. “First, the Nativity scene is an image of this encounter of God with mankind. God comes to us and comes especially in our human form. Then, the devotion and awe people have while assembling the crib is precisely to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ through and his humanity, the sign of God’s love that transforms, frees, and saves us all,” commented Fr. João Batista de Lima, coordinator of liturgy.

In Dorcelina, Maria Augusta, and Teresinha’s house, setting up the Nativity scene is a family tradition. They keep the habit with much love and whimper in every detail. “The tradition comes from my maternal grandmother, Rita Joaquina and two uncles as well. Thus, I have been following this tradition for 35 years. Every year, I always change something so that it does not get so repetitive. Thefore, it gets bigger. I do it with pleasure!”, told Dorcelina Augusta Chaves, a housewife.

According to her, this year the novelty was the image of San Francisco. “It was he who placed the first nativity scene in the world in Italy in 1223. And this nativity scene has never been undone, it remains in the same place and people visit and admire its beauty” she said.

Dorcelina is responsible for assembling and designing the crib. The family recognizes the gift of the housewife and makes a point of prestige. “She does everything with great faith. She places three characters of Jesus in the Nativity Scene in order to honor me and my other sister. Mine is placed in the a ovenbird’s nest  and the other one in the cave. We thank and admire this gift she has and the whole family comes to see the Nativity scene. We have to follow the tradition of Jesus, of the Holy Family,” said the retired Maria Augusta Chaves.

The house is blessed by The Divine Eternal Father and the whole family makes a point of keeping the tradition that was passed down to us through our grandparents. “Devotion to the Eternal Father is extremely strong in my life and family. Everybody signed up to Afipe, we help and it is an action we take that brings good to us and to everyone,” Dorcelina concluded.

The Christmas tree is also one of the most common symbols and are always present in the Christmas decoration. The economist, Sheila Fabiana Gomes da Silva, is an example of someone who always make a point of decorating the whole house and setting up a very beautiful Christmas tree. For 24 years, Sheila has maintained such habit. “My parents have always done that. Even before I had my daughters I have done it. After they were born the tradition got stronger” she said.

The tree represents the life and hope of better days filled with more love and union among people. At Sheila’s house, every ornament is placed with a lot of excitement and a smile on her face, waiting for Jesus to arrive. “I am very happy because I believe that Jesus is reborn in our hearts and this should be not only in Christmas but also all year long. I believe love, union and all that Jesus brings us with his birth represents that light and love that comes from Christmas,” she said.

The economist also sets up a Christmas tree in the home garage to celebrate with her neighbors. “We set one up in the room, where we put the presents and have the supper. I also set up another one in the garage so that children and other people outside can see it. I feel it that it brings community together. When we set up the Christmas tree in the garage was a joyfull day. The best thing for me is to set up the Christmas tree. Christmas time makes me extremely happy.

 [:es]En esta época de Navidad, es común que la gente monte pesebres en casa y en las iglesias también. Construidos en varios tamaños, representan la escena del nacimiento de Jesucristo y son reconocidos como una tradición católica para celebrar una de las fechas más importantes del calendario religioso, el 25 de diciembre.

El pesebre es uno de los símbolos que representan la renovación de la fe en navidad. “En primer lugar, el pesebre es una imagen del encuentro de Dios con los humanos. Dios viene a nuestro encuentro, y viene especialmente en nuestra forma humana. Así que la devoción y la reverencia que la gente tiene en hacer y montar el pesebre, es precisamente para celebrar este encuentro del nacimiento de Jesucristo a través de su humanidad, la señal del amor de Dios, que transforma, libera y salva a todos nosotros”, comentó el padre João Batista de Lima, coordinador de la Liturgia.

En casa de las hermanas Dorcelina, María Augusta y Teresita, montar el pesebre es una tradición familiar. Mantienen la costumbre con mucho amor y se esmeran en cada detalle. “La tradición viene de mi abuela materna, Rita Joaquina y también de dos tíos. Así que sigo esta tradición desde hace 35 años. Cada año cambio algo para no ser tan repetitiva y con eso sólo aumenta su tamaño. ¡Lo hago con mucho gusto!”, contó la ama de casa Dorcelina Augusta Chaves.

Según ella, este año la novedad fue la imagen de San Francisco. “Él fue quien puso el primer pesebre en el mundo, en Italia en 1223. Y ese pesebre nunca ha sido desmontado, sigue en el mismo lugar, donde la gente que lo visita admira su belleza”, resaltó.

De las tres hermanas, Dorcelina es la responsable del montaje y la creación. La familia reconoce el don de la ama de casa y se preocupa con admirar. “Ella hace todo con mucha fe. Para honrar a mi otra hermana y a mí, ella pone a tres Jesús en el pesebre. El mío está en la casita del João-de-Barro (ave que construye su nido con barro), y el otro en la cueva. Apreciamos y admiramos este don que tiene y toda la familia viene por aquí para ver el pesebre. Tenemos que seguir la tradición de Jesús, de la Sagrada Familia”, afirmó la jubilada María Augusta Chaves.

La casa es bendecida por el Divino Padre Eterno y toda la familia se preocupa con mantener la tradición transmitida de los abuelos. “La devoción al Padre Eterno es muy grande en mi vida y en mi familia. Somos asociamos de la Afipe, ayudamos y es una ayuda que hacemos que trae el bien para nosotros y para todo el mundo”, concluyó Dorcelina.

El árbol de navidad también es uno de los símbolos más comunes y siempre están presentes en la decoración navideña. La economista Sheila Fabiana Gomes da Silva es un ejemplo de quién se esmera en decorar toda la casa y montar un hermoso árbol de navidad. Desde hace 24 años, Sheila mantiene la costumbre de decorar. “Mis padres siempre lo han hecho. Incluso antes de tener a mis hijas, yo ya decoraba. Después de que nacieron, la tradición fue sólo aumentando”, dijo.

El árbol representa la vida y la esperanza de días mejores con más amor y unión entre las personas. En la casa de Sheila, cada adorno es colocado con mucha emoción y con una sonrisa en la rostro, esperando la llegada de Jesús. “Me alegro mucho porque creo que la navidad, el renacimiento de Jesús, tiene que renacer en nosotros y eso debería ser todo el año y no sólo en navidad. Creo que el amor, la unión y todo lo que Jesús nos trae con su nacimiento representa ese brillo, esa luz y ese amor que viene todo de la navidad”, contó.

La economista también monta un árbol de Navidad en el garaje para confraternizar con sus vecinos. “Montamos una en la sala, donde ponemos los regalos y hacemos la cena. También monto uno en el garaje, para que la gente de afuera puedan verlo, los niños vienen a verlo. Entonces, parece que une más a la comunidad, a la sociedad. Fue una fiesta en el garaje el día que montamos el árbol. Lo mejor para mí es montar el árbol de navidad. ¡Quiere verme feliz, es cuando llega la Navidad!”, concluyó.
